Phase II - ST. PIUS X PARISH
St. Pius X has moved into Phase II of the Archdiocese of Chicago’s plan to reopen our churches.

  1. Phase II allows for reopening for weekday and weekend Masses for larger groups depending on the guidelines from the state and the capacity of the church building.
  2. Our utmost concern is for the safety of all, therefore, through ongoing discussions with pastors, health care professionals and civil authorities, there will be a review of the Plan and adjustments may be made according with new data.

frtonyDear Parishioners,
Ten years ago I came to St. Pius X and Roberta wrote in the bulletin that I was 70 years old! I then said I guess I’m a new pastor and retiring all at the same time. I was only 60 years at that time and I couldn’t image how fast time would go by and get where did. Where did those 10 years go? They say if time goes by fast—it means you’re enjoying what you are doing. That must be true; being at St. Pius X was a joy. It is wonderful to be able to work, pray and celebrate with such wonderful people. Now I’m really 70 years old and I am ready to retire.

When I was ordained 40 years ago after the Mass of Ordination I walked down the hall to my room thinking 4 years of studying, am I ready? I was scared but through the years I have had the privileged of knowing such great, extraordinary faith filled people that taught me how to be a priest. You really learn from others. Just the simple sacraments like confession, people would pour out their deepest feelings and faith and one learns to ask yourself where am I?

I ask forgiveness of my failings if through my fault or through my unknowing fault I have offended any of you. Please pray for me as I will continue to do the same and pray for you and your loved ones.

Thank you for all the wonderful moments we shared. May Christ bless you! St. Pius X will always have a special place in my heart. I’m sorry we cannot say good bye personally with a little “Coffee and....” but due to the Corona-19 virus we still need to social distance in order to be safe.

Thank you for all the cards and well wishes.
Love,
Fr. Tony

STATEMENT OF CARDINAL BLASE J. CUPICH, ARCHBISHOP OF CHICAGO, ON THE MURDER OF GEORGE FLOYD AND ITS AFTERMATH

May 31, 2020
The past nights I have watched in great personal pain as the pent-up anger of our people caught fire across our country. I saw the city where I was born, the cities where I have lived, the city I pastor now, catch embers from the city where I was educated and burn. Was I horrified at the violence? Yes. But was I surprised? No.

The last class for Religious Education at St. Pius X would have been April 26, 2020. Once “Stay in Place” was implemented to protect others due to the Pandemic we were directed to suspend religious education which included the postponement of Confirmation and First Holy Communion. Our last class for religious education was March 8, 2020 with classes being canceled March 15, 2020. We missed 6 classes for the 2019-2020 school year. We want to reassure all of the children and young candidates for Confirmation that we will schedule for the reception of First Holy Communion and Confirmation once we are free to do so.

Dear Religious Education Families and Parishioners
We are encouraging the Parents and Guardians to teach their children to pray. We have provided the prayers to be memorized from Kindergarten through eighth grades. These prayers are to be learned and practiced at home.
